CES 2007: Alpine's all-in-one swallows GPS whole
Alpine had more on its plate lately than just their RLS show car. Thankfully. No, they too have introduced their all-singing, all-dancing wonderunit for your car. But, unlike their competitors, the Alpine unit's portable GPS module goes inside instead of on top of the head unit.Alpine's IVA-W205 has every electronic gadget you need in your dash, and at the push of a button, opens to reveal a slot for your Alpine Blackbird PBD-P200 GPS unit. Once the Blackbird is inserted into the head unit, the W205 not only gains GPS capability, but also the Blackbird's Bluetooth connectivity. Touching a button on the W205's screen closes the front.
The hideaway GPS garnered Alpine a CES Best of Innovators award this year. Expect to see the W205 on sale in May for $899, and the Blackbird seperately soon after for an as yet undetermined price.

Several years ago, Alpine announced they were going to put out an aftermarket OnStar-like system called Mobile Mayday, but as far as I know, they never actually did. Such an aftermarket system would be greatly appreciated.

I have the IVA-W200 with the iPOD hook up, Sirius Sat, and their BlueTooth module along with yet to be installed BlackBird Nav system- currently used in my winter beater.
Their 1st generation BlueTooth system is a complete joke. It doesn't display anything on the W200 display, nor does it let you do anything. If you phone has voice dial you can dial out contacts from you phone book. Voice quality is a big issue its eighter the microphone picking up too much static or is not full duplex. I would HIGHLY recomend Alpine does something for some of the people that have their 1st BlueTooth unit..... its terrible. I love my W200, I also like my BlackBird, but come on why do I have to upgrade to W205 just so I can have the better BlueTooth ? Why not release some kinda firmware update for the unit so it works with the new BT module ?
